Applications for the 2026 Student Nursing Training Course are now being accepted by the Ministry of Health & Mass Media. For qualified Sri Lankan citizens, this full-time program provides a top route into the government nursing service. The period for online registration is May 29, 2026, through June 30, 2026.

Three years of full-time training
English is the medium of instruction. The application period is from May 29 to June 30, 2026.
The application fee is Rs. 1,000 and can be paid at any Bank of Ceylon branch.
Age Restrictions: 18 to 28 years old as of May 29, 2026
4 feet 10 inches (147.3 cm) is the minimum height.
Marital Status: You must be single and not divorced.
Minimum Requirements for Education
To be considered for selection, candidates must pass both the G.C.E. O/L and G.C.E. A/L exams.
- G.C.E. O/L Conditions
At least six topics must have been passed in no more than two sittings.
English, math, science, and Sinhala/Tamil language are the four core disciplines for which credit passes are required. - G.C.E. A/L Conditions
In 2021, 2022, 2023, or 2024, candidates must have passed any three subjects in a single sitting from the Bio Science or Physical Science stream. Results from the Common General Test and General English are not considered topics. - Biology, Chemistry, Agriculture, Physics, and Mathematics comprise the Bio Science Stream.
- Physical Science Stream: Advanced Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Combined Mathematics.
Z-Score Methodology and District Selection
To ensure equitable regional representation, the hiring procedure is organized methodically :
- Training slots for the entire island are distributed proportionately according to each district’s population distribution.
- District quotas are further allocated in relation to the local applicant pool across the valid examination years (2021–2024).
- The greatest Z-scores associated with the corresponding subject streams are used to determine final selections within each district.
- Residency Requirements: Before June 30, 2026, applicants must use a Grama Niladhari certificate to confirm that they have lived permanently in the district of their choice for three years in a row.
Strict Ineligibility Provisions :
To optimize government resources and enforce free education policy constraints, the following rules apply :
- Excluded are students who are enrolled in or enrolled in a full-time internal course at any State University or University College under the UGC.
- Students participating in any other full-time government institutional training program, such as the National College of Education (Vidya Peeta), are not eligible.
- Eligibility cannot be restored by cancelling a previous university or college registration after this Gazette’s publication date of May 29, 2026.
- For the duration of the three-year training program, trainees must not get married.
